A man who was left with multiple injuries after being hit by a car has thanked the community of Bridgnorth for rallying around to support his family.
David Sharland suffered broken bones and a dislocated elbow after the accident while walking to watch Soccer Aid at Old Trafford, in Manchester, with his family and spent four days in intensive care in Manchester Hospital
Mr Sharland, 57, of Bramble Ridge, was then transferred to Telford.
He was walking to watch the charity game with his wife, Wendy, son Edward and his son's girlfriend, Victoria Morton.
Miss Morton, who lives in Oxford, was also left with a broken leg.
He said the support from his friends and family had made the traumatic experience more bearable and praised staff at the Princess Royal Hospital.
He said: "It was quite an horrific accident. We were walking to Soccer Aid on May 27 when we were mowed down by a hit and run driver."
Mr Sharland, who moved from East Anglia 27 years ago and has played for Bridgnorth squash and racket ball teams, and is an active member of the golf and tennis clubs, has since returned to work.
He said: "We are very fortunate to have friends in Bridgnorth - without them we would not have coped.
"The staff in Telford on Ward 10, without exception, were brilliant. I still cannot walk properly and have limited movement in my left arm, but I'm recovering."
