Shropshire sports clubs get £300,000 Olympic legacy cash
More than £300,000 has been dished out to sports clubs across Shropshire as part of an Olympic legacy fund.
More than £300,000 has been dished out to sports clubs across Shropshire as part of an Olympic legacy fund.
Sport England has handed out the National Lottery investment to seven community sports groups in the county from the Inspired Facilities Fund.
Bridgnorth Town Football Club, Newport RUFC, Hanwood Village Hall near Shrewsbury, Drayton Sports and Leisure Club and the Border Counties School of Gymnastics have each been given £50,000.
Wellington Amateurs Football Club and Chelmarsh Sailing Club were also named in the latest round of funding.
Bridgnorth Town FC will use the money to revamp their Crown Meadow ground. All external windows and doors will be replaced and the function room, toilets and kitchen will be refurbished. Chairwoman Zoe Griffiths said: "We are delighted to have secured this investment."
Newport Rugby Club will put the money towards the club house development and extension project.
Chairman Steve Woodhouse said: "We are naturally over the moon that we have been awarded such a substantial grant."
Drayton Sports and Leisure Club, in Market Drayton, will use the £50,000 for disabled toilets and new changing rooms, re-wiring the building and renovating the club room and squash viewing gallery.
Chelmarsh Sailing club was handed £36,011 and Wellington Amateurs FC was given £30,000. Graeme McDermott, treasurer for Wellington Amateurs, said: "The money is going towards finishing our project of getting floodlights at the ground."
