The inimitable voice of golf, Peter Alliss, charmed a packed Theatre Severn when his An Audience with tour stopped off in Shrewsbury.

Sharing tales of life on the greens and passing on insights about some of the greats of the game, the BBC commentator sat on stage, with just a table and glass of water.

Every seat in the house was filled as Mr Alliss relaxed on a comfy armchair to dispense his stories, including some amusing incidents and characters he has witnessed over the years.

Theatre manager Peter Nicholson said: "More than 630 people packed out the theatre for Peter's first visit to Theatre Severn. We were delighted to have him particularly when he is such an interesting character."

TV legend Alliss, who was supporting Alliss Masters' Wheelchair Classic and Help for Heroes, was the leading British golfer of his day before earning an international reputation for his commentating skills.

His appearance in Shrewsbury was the final date of his latest national speaking tour, which was called The Further Golfing Adventures of Peter Alliss.
