The coldest parts of the UK are expected to be in rural parts of central England. In Shropshire and Mid Wales, temperatures are forecast to plunge as low as -4C (25F) overnight throughout the week.

The days will also feel chillier, forecasters said, with highs of just 3C (37F).

Hard overnight frosts are predicted every night, with the chance of isolated wintry showers throughout the week and light snow in the county.

The Met Office has issued an amber warning of snow for parts of Wales, saying the hilly parts of the south and south east of the country could get as much as 10cm.
