A Michelin-starred chef who started his career at the famous Roux brothers restaurant the Waterside Inn in Bray has been appointed executive head chef at an Oswestry hotel.

Alan Dann has been appointed to the position at the Wynnstay Hotel. And as a member of the head chefs of Great Britain, he will be one of Shropshire's most experienced Michelin-starred chefs.

The chef gained City & Guilds qualifications at catering college and went on to work in some of the world's finest restaurants in England and France.

He was awarded his first Michelin Star in 1998 and has since been awarded the same accolade on two more occasions in England and France.

The talented chef started his career at the Roux Brothers restaurant in Bray.

After three-and-a-half years he moved to France.

He returned to England in 1996 and took control of the kitchens of Lower Slaughter Manor in the Cotswolds where he gained two stars from Egon Ronay and his first Michelin Star.

After setting up the kitchen at the Lion and Pheasant in Shrewsbury, he was rewarded with two rosettes for fine food by the AA on their first visit.

With a passion for local produce, Alan is also part of the Heart of England Fine Foods, and he now looks forward to bringing his experience and food knowledge to the Wynnstay Hotel and hopes to put the hotel and Oswestry on the culinary map.

"The new appointment will help strengthen the quality of the team here at the Wynnstay Hotel and with the two Michelin Star experienced restaurant manager Max Senatore, we will look to offer our customers the best dining experience in Shropshire," said the hotel's general manager Sebastiano Siddi.
