A motorcyclist in his 60s has died in a collision with a car near Bridgnorth. The crash happened at about 2.35pm yesterday on the A442 at Quatt.

The biker, who was riding a Honda CBR 1000, was pronounced dead at the scene, near the turning to Hampton Loade.

He has not yet been formally identified but police have confirmed he was from Worcestershire.

A man driving the Vauxhall Astra involved in the smash was unhurt.

Diversions were in place until about 6.15pm as the road was closed between the Hampton Loade junction and the turning for Russell's Caravan Park in Quatford to allow ambulance staff and police officers to access the scene.

Richard Ewels, spokesman for West Mercia Police, urged members of the public to come forward to help officers work out exactly what had caused the smash.

Mr Ewels said: "We are appealing for witnesses who either saw the actual collision or either vehicle immediately beforehand.

"We would ask them to contact Bridgnorth or Shrewsbury police stations on 03003 333000 as a matter of urgency."

An ambulance crew, an incident support officer and an air ambulance all attended, while a trained Community First Responder, who was passing by, also stopped to help.

West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman Chris Kowalik said: "Sadly, the motorcyclist, a man, was confirmed dead at the scene."
