Councillors have paved the way for a potential £1 million boost for south Shropshire's economy after approving plans for a new riverside caravan park.
Members of Shropshire Council's south planning committee yesterday backed the proposals by Morris Leisure to transform fields on the banks of the River Teme between Ludlow and Richards Castle into the development.
The caravan park, which the Shrewsbury firm claims would inject £1 million a year into the area, would have 135 pitches.
A report to the meeting said a site on the edge of Ludlow offering caravan owners the opportunity to visit and explore the locality was in line with the aims and objectives of the council's main determining policies.
Councillor Stuart West said: "I think the site is in the right position. I think it will be an asset to Ludlow, bringing in more footfall, more economic growth."
Fears had been raised about the 34-acre park's potential harm to the landscape.
But officers were satisfied these issues had been resolved by the company.
Morris Leisure managing director Edward Goddard said: "We are delighted that Shropshire Council has approved our plans for this five star park, which we believe will generate around £1 million a year for Ludlow."
