A £100,000 feeder lane could be introduced at a junction on one of Shropshire's busiest roads to help people access a planned £3 million caravan park.

Officials at Morris Leisure want to create and pay for a separate lane and box junction on the A49 just south of Ludlow at the turning for the B4361 near Overton.

The aim is to make it safer for people with caravans to cross the road to access a new park which the company wants to build on the banks of the River Teme.

The move has come after residents raised concerns about traffic accessing the proposed site near Richards Castle.

It is hoped the 135-pitch park will open in May 2012 and it is expected to generate £1 million a year for Ludlow's tourist economy.

Edward Goddard, managing director of Morris Leisure, said he believed "99 per cent" of caravan park users would access it from the A49.
