A £400,000 grant for a south Shropshire town could be used for a range of schemes including supporting a £1.35 million heritage project, introducing new accommodation for cyclists and walkers and starting up training for chefs, it has emerged.

About 70 people attended a meeting last night at Ludlow Assembly Rooms to hear presentations on possible projects.

The money has come from Shropshire Council and Ludlow's three unitary councillors Martin and Rosanna Taylor-Smith and Tracey Huffer were there to hear the plans.

Councillor Martin Taylor-Smith said: "The meeting was very good. At least three organisations were talking about chef training and hospitality training.

"Another suggestion was accommodation for cycling and walking so we put them in touch with Ludlow Conference Centre who have plans in for a new accommodation block. We are getting people to work together."

He added: "Another one was the town cou-ncil with regard to the town walls, Castle Gardens and the Buttercross. The Buttercross would be made into an information centre."

The town council has asked for £120,000 in match funding to help the £1.35 million project go ahead.
