A 15-year-old boy was threatened with a knife after arranging on Facebook to meet another youth in Wellington to buy a motorbike, police said.
The incident happened between 3.45pm and 4.25pm on Tuesday near Telford Copper Cylinders in Haybridge Road.
Telford police spokesman Chris Ammonds said: "The victim met the youth in Chockleys Drive, Hadley, as organised and they then began to discuss the price of the bike.
"The victim became a little suspicious when they eventually arrived at Haybridge Road and then queried with the youth about where the bike was."
At this point the youth became aggressive and pulled out a knife and waved it at the victim.
Mr Ammonds said: "Understandably frightened the victim emptied his pockets and handed over his wallet which contained £85.
"The youth looked through the wallet and took the cash but then replaced £30 of it and handed it back to the victim with the wallet."
He then made off on foot on to Whitchurch Drive and was not seen again.
The robber was white, about 15, with short, brown hair and wore a black coat and grey tracksuit bottoms.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call 0300 333 3000.
