A consultation process on plans to bring in an alcohol ban in a south Shropshire town will start imminently, councillors have been told.

Police, councillors and residents in Craven Arms want a blanket ban on drinking alcohol outside in public places in the town centre to clamp down on vandalism, anti-social behaviour, and under-age drinking.

Negotiations have been ongoing for months with Shropshire Council licensing officials over introducing a designated public places order to enable police to confiscate alcohol on the spot.

Craven Arms Town Council clerk Eric Williams said: "Progress has been relatively slow with this but Shropshire Council is preparing to commence consultation in the area."

He said that process was "due to take place shortly".
