Today William Hill spokesman Rupert Adams said: "Punters could make millions out of a Matt victory and the early signs are that he could well go all the way." Cardle is presently 11/8 to win and the acts with the next shortest odds are One Direction, Rebecca Ferguson, Cher Lloyd and Mary Byrne.
Graham Sharpe, William Hill's public relations boss, added that betting on reality TV had taken off in the past 10 years.
He said: "More and more people have having a flutter, it's been our biggest new market in recent years. But, if you look back, people also wanted to bet on who shot JR, so TV has always been attractive to the punters."
