Detectives were today continuing to question six men who were arrested on suspicion of the rape and abduction of a 19-year-old woman in Telford.

The men were arrested after police launched an investigation into allegations that the woman was attacked at the Flames Takeaway in Wellington.

Detectives today appealed for witnesses and said the woman had become separated from friends before the alleged incident in the early hours of Sunday.

The six men were continuing to be quizzed at Malinsgate Police Station, in Telford, and Shrewsbury Police Station after officers were granted extra time to question five of them. Officers are expected to apply for extra time to question the sixth man this later today.

Detective Inspector John Elcock, of Telford CID, said: "The victim in the inquiry was a customer waiting in the queue at Flames before the incident took place.

"She had previously been with friends but had become separated. She suffered minor injuries and has since been released from hospital but has been left deeply traumatised.

"We are still appealing for anyone who was in the area but particularly stood in the queue waiting for food in Flames around this time to contact police."

Mr Elcock added: "We are studying CCTV which forms a major line of the inquiry. I would urge anyone who has got CCTV which covers the front or back of the premises which has not been brought to our attention to contact police.

"The incident happened shortly after 1am when the town, especially the Market Square area and the takeaway, would have been very busy."

Anybody with information is asked to contact Telford CID on 0300 333 3000 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
