I was fishing on Saturday at Trench Pool, Trench Lock. I had been fishing for about four hours when the fisheries bailiff arrived and asked for my rod licence and a fee of £4 for the day's fishing.

I presented my fishing licence and my military ID card. I tried to hand over the sum of £4 to the bailiff, who replied: "For you, son, there is no charge today."

I asked why and he replied: "You soldiers do enough."

I would like to say a big thank you to the bailiff and Telford Angling Association. I felt very humbled and very proud at the comment.

Once again, thank you.
