A pedestrian was airlifted to hospital after he was in collision with a car and suffered head and shoulder injuries outside a farm in Shropshire.

Four other people were also taken to hospital following a spate of crashes on the county's roads over the weekend.

The pedestrian, a man believed to be in his 30s, was hurt outside a farm in Soudley, near Market Drayton, shortly after 8.30am on Saturday. He is in a stable condition in hospital, police said today.

Claire Thomas, West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman, said: "The man, believed to be in his 30s, suffered head and shoulder injuries.

"Crews treated the man at the scene and stabilised his condition before he was airlifted to University Hospital North Staffordshire."

Two men and a woman were also injured in a crash involving a car and a lorry on the A41 in Sandford shortly before 9.45am on Saturday.

The driver and passenger, a man and woman both in their 60s, were released by firefighters. The man suffered a leg and head injury and was airlifted to University Hospital North Staffordshire.

The woman suffered relatively minor injuries and was taken to hospital by land ambulance.

The driver of the lorry, a 25-year-old man, suffered a minor head injury and was taken to Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.

One person was taken to hospital following a four vehicle collision in High Street, Shifnal, just after 1am yesterday.

And a car overturned on Ryton Road, in Dorrington, near Shrewsbury just after midnight yesterday. No-one was injured and fire crews made the car safe.
