A woman was sexually assaulted in a churchyard in Wellington as she walked home from a night out.

Detectives today appealed for information following the assault, which happened at about 1.35am on Sunday in the grounds of All Saints' Church, off Church Street.

It is believed the 20-year-old woman was on her way home from a night out when the attack took place.

Police said as she walked alone through the churchyard she was approached from behind and sexually assaulted by a man who had been riding a push bike.

Telford police spokeswoman Denise Wakefield appealed for anyone with information about the attack to contact officers.

She said: "A number of people who were on a night out in Wellington would have been in the town and possibly could have seen something that could help us with our inquiries.

"We would appeal for these men, or any other witnesses with information about the incident, to come forward."

Information should be passed to Telford Police by calling 0300 333 3000 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
