No charges in attempted murder case

Four men arrested in connection with the attempted murder of a man in Wellington were today told they would not face charges.

The men – one in his late 30s and three in their early 20s – were questioned following the vicious attack in Urban Gardens on June 1.

The 29-year-old Asian victim, who has not been named, was left fighting for his life after he was dragged from his Audi A4 car and beaten on June 1.

He suffered multiple injuries and underwent life-saving surgery. He remains in a critical but stable condition in hospital.

Detective Inspector John Elcock, who is part of the investigation team, said: "I can confirm the four men have been released from their police bail without charge.

"I would like to emphasise the fact the investigation into the incident is ongoing and a large number of police officers continue to work on the case.

"We are following up a number of leads as part of the inquiry, but would once again like to appeal to anyone with information to come forward and share that information with us."

A £10,000 reward has been offered to anyone who supplies significant information that leads to a conviction in the case. Police issued CCTV images of a dark BMW they want to trace in connection with the attack.
