Detectives were today visiting Telford mosques as part of the hunt for three attackers who left a man fighting for his life.

The 29-year-old victim, who was discovered with multiple injuries on the pavement in Urban Gardens, Wellington, on Monday morning, remains critically ill in hospital today.

Detectives have been drafted in from across West Mercia Police force to investigate the attack.

Chris Ammonds, police spokesman, said officers had posted leaflets appealing for anyone with information through hundreds of doors in the Wellington area.

Mr Ammonds said: "Officers are carrying out door-to-door inquiries, posting leaflets and talking to members of the community.

"We are also visiting mosques as part of the inquiry to reassure people and make appeals for information. The high visibility patrols will continue throughout the weekend."

Police are looking for three Asian men in connection with the attack, which saw the injured man targeted as he sat in his silver Audi A4 shortly before 4am on Monday.

He had been driving around Hadley and Wellington from 2.30am and may have been followed home.

The attackers smashed the windows of his car before dragging him out and beating him. He also suffered serious injuries to his arm.

Witnesses are asked to call police on 0300 333 3000.
