bm-logoUp to 30 jobs will be created in Market Drayton after bosses at a national discount giant announced plans to open a store in the town next month.

B&M Bargains will open its shop on the Frogmore Road development in about six weeks, bosses at the firm said today.

The move will create 25 to 30 full and part-time jobs and the recruitment process will start next week.

Gareth Bilton, B&M area manager, said the timescale for the new store had been postponed due to a delay in building works, but now shop fitters are working inside the building ready for an opening date in June.

He said: "We have about six weeks, there's quite a lot of work to do. We will be recruiting next week for a mixture of part-time and full-time posts.

"It's all moving on now so people should start seeing some activity in there, it's more shop fitting than building now," he said.

Mr Bilton said the firm had already received some job applications, and he expected former Woolworths staff who lost their jobs when the town's store closed in December to apply.

"We won't have a grand opening, the reality is because we have opened so many stores our aim is just to get it open as soon as possible as soon as we can.

"The timescale for the opening will be fairly loose, we will have a date but if we can open sooner we won't hang about."
