How could you leave dog to die?
LETTER: It is with a mixture of sadness and deep gratitude that I write this letter.
LETTER: It is with a mixture of sadness and deep gratitude that I write this letter.
On January 26, at approximately 7.20am, my dog, Toby, was knocked down and killed in Pool Farm Avenue, Leegomery, by a hit-and-run driver.
I completely understand that it was an accident, Toby was in the wrong place at the wrong time. The driver was not to blame.
However, I cannot understand how any person involved in such an accident can drive off without any thought for the chaos they have left behind.
Toby came from the Dogs Trust Rescue Centre at Roden and had been with us for less than two years. During that time he brought immense pleasure into our home.
Latterly, he brought great pleasure to the residents of the Birkdale Nursing Home in Oakengates where he had just started visiting as a Pets as Therapy visiting dog.
Fortunately, I was helped by Ralph Williams, who is an Arriva Bus driver based at the Wellington depot. Ralph went above and beyond what you could ever hope for from a passing stranger.
I wish to publicly thank Ralph for all his assistance and comfort at what was a dreadfully distressing time. It is good to know that there are still some decent people who are willing to help in times of need.
