Trevor ReesMohamed al Fayed has accused Shropshire bodyguard Trevor Rees who was seriously injured in the crash which killed Diana, Princess of Wales, of being turned against him by MI6.Mr al Fayed, whose son Dodi and driver Henri Paul also died in the crash in Paris, told an inquest at the High Court in London that he felt betrayed by Mr Rees, from Oswestry, whom he described as a "crook".

The Harrods boss claimed yesterday that Mr Rees, as well as fellow bodyguard Kes Wingfield and security man, Ben Murrell, had been "got at" by the security services.

He told the hearing: "I saved his life, day and night for six months, worked for me, signed confidentiality - three of them can turn against me? You think this is normal."

Mr al Fayed said: "There must be a document in MI6 which shows how they pursued these guys. There must be money paid to them, you know."

The jury has been told by Mr al Fayed's legal team that certain allegations, particularly about Mr Rees, the only survivor, are no longer being relied upon.

It had been suggested that the severely injured Mr Rees lied about losing his memory.

Meanwhile, Mr al Fayed also claimed yesterday the Duke of Edinburgh ordered MI6 to orchestrate the 1997 Paris car crash.

He claimed that the alleged murder was sanctioned by Tony Blair.

The Harrods boss used his time in the witness box yesterday to verbally attack many powerful and high-profile public figures.

He believes the murder plot was hatched because Diana was pregnant with Dodi's child and about to become engaged to his son.

He also claims the establishment could not accept an Egyptian Muslim as a stepfather to the future King of England.

The Duke of Edinburgh was placed at the centre of the allegations as Mr al Fayed believes he ordered the crash that killed the couple and their driver, Henri Paul, on August 31.

Everyone from the security services, including MI6 and the CIA, the French authorities, former Metropolitan Police chiefs Lord Condon and Lord Stevens and even Diana's own sister Lady Sarah McCorquodale came under Mr al Fayed's veil of suspicion.

The hearing continues.
