An elderly woman who was pulled from her burning flat by neighbours has died.
Gwen Pryce, 86, was rescued by Ted Hughes, 71, and Brian Davies, 59, from her home in Pelham Road, Upton Magna, near Shrewsbury, after she was found unconscious in her bathroom on Tuesday evening.
But her grandson Wayne Pryce, also of Upton Magna, said she had died after failing to recover from the effects of smoke inhalation.
He said family members had been at her bedside as she died at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital at about 3.30pm yesterday.
Mr Pryce said: "I always feared the worst as the carbon monoxide had got in her bloodstream and it stopped her organs functioning as they should."
Mr Pryce paid tribute to his grandmother. He said: "She was a very private woman. We've been very lucky in that we all live around the area and we've all been very close to her over the years."
Mr Pryce also thanked fire crews and Mr Hughes and Mr Davies for risking their own lives.
