We want best price for building

The article in the Shropshire Star on November 16, reporting the decision of Shifnal town council to consider selling the court house privately and not by auction, is surprising.

I do not know who advises the council but it is possible to impose conditions on a sale by auction, just the same as privately. Any restrictions or conditions will always affect the price obtained.

Surely the council should be attempting to obtain the best price possible for this asset of the town, a proper and fair price?

And is the town council not under a duty to obtain the best price, in the interest of the people of Shifnal?

A private arranged sale may not achieve this and the proceedings should be open and transparent, not be bound by restrictions which would inhibit a private buyer from making an offer and only be open to a housing association.

Any development would need to be approved by the planning department, any dislike of the sort of development that has taken place in Shifnal should not influence this sale for the best price.

The people of Shifnal should be concerned about this matter and insist that the best price is obtained, for their benefit and not the benefit of a housing association.

There should not be any more delay.
