Why no market in town?

What is wrong with Oakengates that the farmers' market refuses to hold a market once a month in Limes Walk.

This was the information given by Andrew Blunt of AGM Markets at a social committee meeting of the town council, yet Shifnal had more stalls than there was room for )Shropshire Star, November 13).

It all started when the town council changed the Christmas lights switch-on to coincide with a farmers' market on the same day

However, when the first farmers' market was supposed to have been held on a Friday in August, although large crowds of people turned up for the market, the farmers themselves did not appear.

As for the Christmas lights switch-on, the town council decided to leave the date as planned and make other arrangements, with AGM Markets playing a major part.

Now AGM Markets have pulled out of this event, leaving the streets bare and the social committee chairman with a big headache.

I have no doubt that other arrangements are being made to fill this last-minute decision by the market organisers to leave Oakengates in the lurch.

I am sure that like myself, my fellow town councillors, would like the answer why the farmers' market will not come once a month to Oakengates. You don't know what it is like if you have not tried it.

So traders of the farmers' market please contact Oakengates Town Council, or councillors, because we want to hear from you why you refuse to come to Oakengates.
