How confidential do you think the banks or anywhere you have to give personal details are?

Recently I went to my local bank to pay some cash into my account. While waiting in a very long queue with my daughter we were able to listen to people's personal details such as bank account numbers, sort codes, names, addresses and dates of birth etc, all asked by bank staff to people who where being interviewed.

To me this is confidential information that in the wrong hands could have serious implications.

We are told time and time again to keep personal details private but again have no choice when trying to get information from banks or anywhere we inquire about personal details due to having open interview areas.

I think people should be taken into private rooms like it always was instead of having all these desks in full view of the public.
