Concerned by speed of traffic
Close to four months ago I contacted the police at Ludlow to voice my concern, which is generally felt in this area, about the continual speed of traffic on Ludlow Road, travelling from Church Stretton to Little Stretton and vice versa.
Close to four months ago I contacted the police at Ludlow to voice my concern, which is generally felt in this area, about the continual speed of traffic on Ludlow Road, travelling from Church Stretton to Little Stretton and vice versa.
Two days later, a Mr B Williams called and informed me about the various reasons why little can be done immediately, indicating that camera traffic control was available locally.
Six weeks passed and my inquiries across the neighbourhood proved that no speed control cameras had been seen in the area.
I decided to contact Mr Williams again, but he appeared to repeat much of what he had said to me before.
On October 3, Shropshire radio announced that there was to be a meeting of the South Shropshire Police Advisory Committee that same evening.
At the meeting, Inspector Payton said unless someone was exceeding the national speed limits there was very little the police could do.
The police have been waiting some three years for the county council to validate 20, 30 and 40mph speed limits. So far, only two have gained validation to the satisfaction of the police authorities.
In my opinion, it now requires all members of the public concerned by the dangers of speeding traffic to contact their local councillors and ask for constructive change. I conclude by asking: "Do you care?".
