Actress not stunning in purple
I disagree with your reporter Tracey O'Sullivan about film and TV actress Dame Helen Mirren.
I disagree with your reporter Tracey O'Sullivan about film and TV actress Dame Helen Mirren.
I am one of Helen Mirren's admiring fans, but I did not think that she looked at all stunning in the dress she wore to collect her award (Star, September 17).
The purple plunging gown looked like a pair of oversized curtains hanging from her shoulders.
She looked much more feminine wearing a grey and white dress in the Star on September 22.
She did, indeed, look a picture of glamour in that photo, holding a copy of her book, The Frame.
One can only presume it was the angle of the camera that made Dame Helen look anything but flattering in the purple evening gown.
But fashion, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder and I often disagree with the comments made by so-called fashion experts in a Sunday tabloid magazine.
Your front page headline was "Mirren Scoops an Emmy", but in that photo she looked like she had been scooping up too much ice-cream!
In the same issue, actress Teri Hatcher looked very glamorous and showed just enough cleavage in a long pink gown.
I disagree with Karen Boden's letter of support for Britney Spears, and I think the Star's article was spot on.
The photos I have seen of Britney from a side angle show her to have a bulging stomach and if she's a size 10 then Vanessa Feltz must be a 12 - I don't think!
Why on earth did she have to go to a recording studio in a bikini or bra and pants?
