Courtney Browne arrived in Los Alcazares four years ago with her mum and dad. She went to the local all-Spanish school at 10 years of age.

She found the language barrier hard at first but had lots of encouragement from her classmates and teachers, has integrated very well and she is now fluent in Spanish.

One of her friends in class was a keen volleyball player and only a year ago brought Courtney to the El Algar Costa volleyball club to try out.

Courtney, who had not let a tennis racquet out of her hands since she was a child, decided to try a team sport.

Courtney is now 14 and in one volleyball season has certainly made her mark. Her team play their home games in the Polideportivo in Los Alcazares and won the Murcia regional finals in June of this year.

What makes Courtney stand out is that she was picked to play for Murcia after only competing for one season. She recently took part in a competition in La Palma in the Canaries competing against all the top Spanish teams.

What Courtney has achieved this year has made us in this small community very proud of her. We wish this wondergirl the best of luck for the future.
