Question: Where have all the cinema adverts gone?

When the Shropshire Star was launched in October 1964 there were at least 10 cinemas from all over the county and beyond advertising on a daily basis. Today there are just two.

The Polar, Welshpool, and Regent, Newtown, are both twin screen operations.

First to go was the 10- screen UCI, now the Odeon, advertising just on a Friday and now a cheap advert in the Telford Admag.

Next came the Majestic, Bridgnorth, once run by ABC, but now in the hands of Reels Cinemas. Thirdly, we have the newest of the bunch, The Cine UK eight-screen Cineworld at Shrewsbury. This company is owned by a member of the Warner Brothers, a big name in the world of entertainment.

And to end, if a cinema such as The Regal, Tenbury Wells, and the Polar and the Regent can afford advertising then I'm sure the multiplexes can advertise as well.
