Tribute to college
Following the closure of my post of Adult and Community Education Co-ordinator at the Community College, Bishop's Castle, I would like to pay tribute to all the good things that have developed from the Community College since its inception in 1987.
Following the closure of my post of Adult and Community Education Co-ordinator at the Community College, Bishop's Castle, I would like to pay tribute to all the good things that have developed from the Community College since its inception in 1987.
The Community College was set up as a response to the threatened closure of the sixth form, and in successfully retaining the sixth form it benefited many young people in the area.
In addition, a lot of initiatives took place at the college which are still thriving and contribute hugely to the buoyancy of this area.
The energy and hard work of David Preshous, Cath Murphy, Richard Beaumond and Diana Morris contributed to, amongst other things, the leisure centre extension (which has lead to SpArC) with its Hokosai 'wave' mural, the Wasteless Society, Crowgate Childcare Centre, the South West Shropshire Historical and Archaeological Society, the Community Choir, the Tourism Group, Town Tours, the Walking Festival, the Michaelmas Street Fair, the concept of an IT Resource Centre - Enterprise South West Shropshire and many wonderful theatre and arts experiences.
Many people have had the benefit of local training and education opportunities and tutors and organisers have found a welcome for their activities at the college.
