In reply to the ridiculous and insulting letter in this paper on June 12 regarding our postmen and women requesting a decent wage.

As I sit here writing this letter, my husband, a hard-working and extremely worthy postman, who started his day at 3.30am, has just left the house at 7pm, in the pouring rain and thunderstorms, to start his third job of the day to enable him to give our young family a decent life.

I don't know what rank the postman you are referring to in your letter is, but, as in many jobs, not all staff are paid the same rate.

I can assure you my husband earns nothing like £21,000. Furthermore, why shouldn't every hard working person in this country have the right to own a home and a car?

How dare you say that postal workers have a low intellect and less skill and ability than people in other walks of life?

I have never heard of anything quite so insulting and small-minded. Qualifications and abilities do not determine how decent a person you are.

Considering what a fantastic wage and magnificent benefits the post office offers, together with the fact your husband is on such a pittance, with no home of your own, no car and no holidays, has he thought of applying for a job?
