Former leader of Ceredigion County Council, Councillor Dai Lloyd Evans, of Tregaron, is quoted in the Welsh Press as saying the Cambrian Mountains are the best place for windfarms and the proposals to designate these mountains as an area of outstanding natural beauty would not be well received locally and he said he did not see the point.

What utter nonsense and madness - this councillor urgently needs to not only acquaint himself with the technology and limitations of wind-generated electricity, but also the amount of power Wales currently produces - is he aware we export surplus power to the Grid/England? Is he not also aware that the proposed Pembrokeshire 1 CCGT power station alone, has a capacity of 2000 MW - so much for his wind farms.

It is also puzzling and somewhat surreal that a councillor with such a Welsh sounding name is not championing the protection of the glorious Welsh countryside. It is incredible that a Welsh councillor could state that he did not see the point of making the Cambrian Mountains an area of outstanding natural beauty.

I would have thought that all credible people would welcome living in an area designated as such, especially considering the potential of an increase in property prices, not to mention income from tourism. It does make you wonder if this councillor has a hidden agenda?
