Top walks right on our doorstep

The Shropshire Star featured walking recently, but why in the Lake District? If you want to encourage people to take more exercise why not show them that they can do it on their own doorstep?

I have walked and climbed in the lakes and fells, and as spectacular as it is, it can be matched and bettered without cluttering up the M6.

There is a far wider range of walking experience within a 40-mile radius of Shrewsbury than could be found in many other parts of the world.

In using what is available locally, it is possible to build the experience to be a far more versatile walker than many notable fellsmen.

The craft of walking is about using a free resource for maximum enjoyment, and the means of learning this is right here.

I have just come off a website where some dales walkers are complaining about a boring walk.

I have yet to find one in this area. I have worked hard at learning my craft, but this area provides an impeccable palette from which masterpieces seem to come naturally.
