Parking needed in town centre

The article in the Shropshire Star on June 5 about linking Shrewsbury's retail malls alerted me to the fact that the car park must be closed.

After making inquiries, I am told a notice was placed on the gate of the car park but so obscure I never saw it.

Your article about the malls made no mention of the loss of much-needed parking facilities in the town centre.

Thanks are due to Mr Paul Sahota and his excellent team on the Raven Meadows Car Park, who were efficient, friendly and looked after the cars as if they were their own.

This car park will be greatly missed and the loss of such a large car parking facility in the town centre is worrying.

Car parking spaces are diminishing fast and with the proposed closure of Barker Street car park as well as the loss of spaces on Castle Gates and the threat of congestion charging, it would seem to be another nail in the coffin of business in the town centre.

Park and Ride is viable for those wishing to visit the town centre only.

For rural dwellers with no transport (most of Shropshire) - whose journeys would probably involve multiple trips including the town centre - the park and ride is not viable, especially with such poor transport across and around the town.

Good parking facilities are essential until considerable improvements are made to transport throughout Shropshire.
