Shocked by attitude to family

I have just read a letter from Mr S Parker noting that he feels the parents of Madeleine McCann should be arrested on their return to the UK.

I am shocked that any member of our community can hold such thoughts. Does he not think the parents of this poor little girl will live with that thought for the rest of their lives?

I question whether he is a parent, if so - is he perfect? If not, well then he has no idea about being a parent and so should not comment.

As a parent of a four-year- old girl myself I know that there are dangers and, yes, with hindsight the decision was one that perhaps we should all review with great reflection. I know my parents left me in my room during holidays and checked every 15 minutes in the 70s and 80s.

I know that we are more relaxed on holiday and so perhaps do not use the same instinct and initiative we use in this country, but still we should not be condemning this poor family in crisis.

We should be doing all we can to support and hope this gorgeous little girl is returned unharmed and all turns out well.

Unless he is perfect himself he should not pass judgement. Let's have more compassion as a society and offer our support.

Too much judgement happens in this day and age.
