Countries belong to the people

As a student of history, and also an ex-serviceman, I believe we were right in challenging Adolf Hitler.

Yet we also believe the 'Emperor Franz Joseph's heir Kaiser Karl' of Austria and the English Viscount were also right in trying to end World War One in 1916.

But have British politicians today any idea of what Abraham Lincoln's Gettysburg speech means? An extract, "they have not died in vain" is etched on all our war memorials.

Most UK citizens approve of European Free Trade but everyone wants a referendum on the Union.

If it is to mean anything worthwhile, it must be like Great Britain and the Commonwealth and the United States with its electoral colleges - a constitution which can be amended.
