Dismay over bins change
I read with dismay that Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council is forcing Shrewsbury residents into accepting wheelie bin collections only once a fortnight from October.

Our family has employed a zero-tolerance attitude to adding recyclable materials to the wheelie bins for more than five years now.
The price we pay for this is that our garden is often full of recyclable waste and we have to make regular visits to Harlescott.
Thanks to the frankly ridiculous policy on trailers, this is delivered in the back of our car.
Despite already paying a price, it looks as if things are going to get worse for us. We manage to fill our bin to the extent that twice-monthly collection will now mean adding other waste to our regular trips.
Since it all ends up in the same place, there will be no environmental advantage to the new policy, it will simply save the council money and put the burden on the homeowners and increase our use of petrol to transport the rubbish.
We have done everything possible to do our bit and will be repaid by having more rubbish around our property waiting for the bin men or a free hour to take it away.
And to add insult to injury, should the congestion charge come into place, we will either have to pay a fee to go through the town or travel five miles extra around the by-pass. So much for saving the environment.
