Charges by council mount up
I am horrified that the council has recently put up car parking charges in the centre of Shrewsbury by 25 per cent. This is on top of council tax increases of five per cent and double the rate of inflation.

Not content with that, the weekly rubbish collection will soon be fortnightly. We have learned from the Star that microchips will be fitted to wheelie bins in Shrewsbury as a "precautionary" measure to monitor waste, at a cost to the taxpayer of £1.3 million.
Make no mistake, soon we will all be charged per kilo of waste disposed of.
Then, of course, we will all have to pay the congestion charge to enter the town.
Congestion, if it exists, has been created by the council introducing forests of traffic lights and reducing the widths of roads so that when a bus stops everything stops. The residents of Shrewsbury are being ripped off by a totally inept council, where spending and recruitment is out of control.
Enough is enough. If I see another van with "SABC striving for excellence" (but never achieving it) painted on it I think I will be sick.
"Striving for extortion" would be more honest.
