Badgers causing problems
On February 23 Tracy Welch called for more measures to be taken to preserve badgers and our countryside. However around here the badgers are destroying the beautiful countryside, simply because there are so many of the creatures.

By their digging, they are uprooting newly planted hedges, undermining banks and roads and generally causing tremendous damage.
Leading veterinary researchers say that badgers now threaten to spread TB to humans, as well as other animals (see www.countrysideonline.co.uk).
They describe how the once quite rare and harmless creatures have now increased a hundred fold in numbers because of over-protection. The vets say that urgent steps must be taken to reduce the number of badgers.
Who is right?
And remember that this is not my view, but that of wildlife experts, who have studied the problem for years, and have to answer to their performance body if wrong.
