Concerns over truth behind bid
We have all been informed that City Region is going to be a fantastic move for the people of Telford and it will help attract greater Government funding, whilst giving us a greater say on issues at regional level.
We have all been informed that City Region is going to be a fantastic move for the people of Telford and it will help attract greater Government funding, whilst giving us a greater say on issues at regional level.
The truth is, we as residents are not having our say on issues that affect us at local level, so clearly, this additional tier will further reduce our voice.
I really cannot understand why council leaders are determined not to give us information on this issue and do not want us to have our democratic say.
I have e-mailed Councillor Austin as suggested by a local councillor and as invited by way of the Insight magazine. Like many, I am concerned that the whole truth is not being given to us or councillors either.
We have been informed that the cost for the City Region is £100,000. This £100,000 is the cost of membership and the only cost for the four years of being members. This appears to be the belief of several councillors.
We have discovered documentation that suggests a further cost of £68,000 is being footed by ourselves.
The £68,000 is the salary and associated costs of a newly created position for one year. I express great concern that additional costs appear to be covertly pushed through.
You as councillors have no other alternative but to resist this move into the City Region with full vigour.
John Franklyn, Telford
