Let's stick to stadium facts
The letter from Mrs JL Phillips needs to be put in its correct perspective.
The letter from Mrs JL Phillips needs to be put in its correct perspective.
Her statement that the Sutton Area Residents' Association (SARA) have made repeated claims that "the directors of Shrewsbury Town Football Club (STFC) have moved the stadium for personal profit" is untrue.
The figure of £350,000 on offer to the borough council from STFC was first mentioned in the press and was nothing to do with SARA.
The residents' association became interested in it only when Keith Sayfritz told its chairman that the borough council had suggested this figure to the football club.
Do not confuse this with the more major issue whereby STFC secured outline planning permission at Oteley Road by offering to build community facilities for residents and then tried to rid themselves of this obligation once planning permission was obtained.
Mrs Phillips describes the New Meadow as a "terrific sports facility". This once beautiful approach to Shrewsbury is now destroyed forever.
As for SARA being "exposed as a single issue campaign group", Mrs Phillips will hopefully be pleasantly surprised to learn that it was formed in 1997 to liaise with the Bayston Hill Quarry committee which it still does, is involved with the development of the London Road campus, the Sutton Road safety work, mobile telephone mast proposal and now the travel plan liaison group.
Please let's stick to facts.
