Samuel Wood, pictured, of The Hobbins, Bridgnorth, died on Wednesday following a three-car smash on the B4373 Broseley to Bridgnorth road.
A 67-year-old woman, Mary Paling, of Shawbury, was also seriously injured in the crash and remains "poorly" in Princess Royal Hospital's intensive care unit in Telford today.
Mr Wood was a popular member of the Bridgnorth and District Young Farmers Club and worked as an agricultural engineer at Morris Corfield & Co, in Much Wenlock.
John Farquharson, chairman of the young farmers club, who was a close friend of Mr Wood, said he would be terribly missed.
"He was a cracking lad and a really great friend," he said. "He was well known by everyone in the young farmers. He had been a member for nearly five years. It is a tragic loss."
John Burd, director of Morris Corfield & Co, said Mr Wood had worked for the firm for about four years.
"He was such a nice young chap and it is hard to take it all in," he said. "He was well respected and hard working, and he will be a great loss."
Mr Wood's mother, Carol Wood, simply said: "I miss him and I want him back."
The coroner for south Shropshire, Anthony Sibcy, opened and adjourned Mr Wood's inquest today. The full hearing is due to take place on May 3 in Bridgnorth.
Sergeant Pat Shakespeare, of Bridgnorth police, appealed for witnesses to the crash, which happened about a mile out of Broseley at 5.40pm on Wednesday.
He said Mr Wood was driving a red Peugeot 106, which collided with a silver Honda Civic driven by Mrs Paling. A blue Corsa then collided with both cars after the initial crash, but the driver was uninjured.
Sergeant Shakespeare said the tragic crash showed the dangers of Shropshire's roads during the cold weather snap. He said: "We would appeal for people to take extra care and slow down when the roads may be icy."
