While browsing through my collection of cinema and theatre advertisements I came across some old adverts of Shrewsbury Music Hall, when on Friday evenings a big pop star of the 1960s would appear.

Memories came flooding back as stars such as Freddie and The Dreamers, The Undertakers, Herman's Hermits, Unit 4 + 2, Chris Andrews, Cilla Black, Brian Poole and The Tremeloes and The Ying Tongs (whose admission was said to be 5,600 yen). The St Louis Union was the last I have on record but many followed.

We must not forget the backing groups that supported these pop stars: The Wild Cats, Andre and The Electrons, The Tremers, The Silverstones, The Hi Five Aces, The Accoustics, Dave and The VIPs, The Tearaways, The Astronauts, Rory and The Gleneagles, The Blue Cryers, The Phantones, The Soverings and lastly The Karakters.

There were others. The Rocking Farmers were popular and I must pay tribute to the band that played on Saturdays at the music hall for the municipal dance The Sapphires; their signature tune was A Taste of Honey.

Other bands that played at village halls included, The Esmond Betton Band, Pollards Music and David Davies Music.
