Opinion not from experience

I cannot allow the letter from S Evans on the Pant and Llanymynech bypass to go without reply.

Firstly let me say that I have no qualms with Mr Evans' opinions on the state of the bypass.

While I do not agree with him, it is a view to which he is entitled.

I wonder if his opinion would have altered had he walked children to Bryn Offa School (one part of Pant that would appear to meet his requirements) along painfully narrow pavements with 30 tonne lorries thundering inches past buggies and pushchairs?

To state that the village has been virtually devoid of serious accidents is, quite frankly an insult to those whose children have been killed or injured on this stretch of road.

Llanymynech too has seen its fair share of serious incidents over the not too distant past.

Naturally as a near lifelong resident of Pant I am more than aware of the effect on house prices that a bypass may have.

However, that value can only be realised should a property be for sale and I for one am going nowhere.

I fear Mr Evans may be solely basing his opinions on the view along the main road (other than the route to the school of course).

I have never heard anyone claim that Pant should be considered alongside Florence or Prague on the architectural tourist trail.

The village was built around working people, whether on the land or toiling in the limestone quarries dotted around the hills in the village.

The architecture reflects that there is history here and maybe your correspondents should explore some of it before disparaging my domicile.
