Old dogs do calendar trick

Elderly residents of a Shropshire dog rescue centre have been showing the younger pups they can still strut their stuff by posing for a new calendar.

Bosses at Grinshill Animal Rescue Centre have made the older dogs the focus of the calendar to try to push the message that older dogs need rehoming and care too.

The canine line-up on the calendar, Old But Not Forgotten, includes dogs who have been rehomed after staying at the centre.

Centre owner Jenny Martinez said: "This is the first one we have done and we wanted to put the old dogs on it because a lot of them get forgotten and end up being put to sleep.

"As well as raising funds for the centre the idea was to get the message across about the need to find new homes for older dogs, all they want is a bit of TLC.

"It did take a few weeks to get all the pictures done and put the calendar together, but the dogs were fine and it was good fun."

Funds raised from the sale of the calendar will be used to cover the printing costs, with any surplus going towards the centre.

Staff at the centre work to rehabilitate and re-home all animals to suitable and caring homes. All homes are checked before and after animals are relocated.

The calendar has been on sale since the end of November and only about 80 of the 200 copies are left.

The calendars cost £6.50 each and can be bought from Grinshill Animal Rescue Centre or by calling 07740 103393.

The centre relies entirely on donations from the public and fundraising events. Anyone who can help can call Mrs Martinez on (01939) 220211.
