Acquittal of Griffin is a travesty
Under the UN and the European convention of human rights every individual has the right to express his or her opinion but not to cross the boundary of civilised and decent behaviour.

The acquittal of the BNP leader Nick Griffin who branded Islam a wicked, vicious faith and also attacked the Holy Quran, the sacred book of one billion Muslims of the world, is a travesty of justice.
There is no doubt that the BNP is a racist and fascist party and its stance against the Asians and African British citizens should be condemned, but unfortunately there is no legislation to punish its leaders.
What will be the consequence of Mr Griffin's acquittal is to be seen.
A Muslim man who was displaying a placard inciting religious hatred has been sent to prison, why not Mr Griffin who also incited religious hatred by attacking Islam? There should not be a double standard in the carriage of justice.
Gordon Brown wants the present laws on the incitement of the religious and racial hatred to be reviewed to avoid the miscarriage of justice.
Mr Griffin is a great danger to racial harmony in the UK, his unwarranted and unprovoked attack has hurt many peaceful, highly educated and loyal British Muslims, including myself.
I will request David Wright MP to take up the matter with the PM and tighten the religious and racial hatred laws in the UK.
Dr Nasir A Khan, Telford
