Planners warned of problems

With reference to Roger Aveley's letter about parking at Hadley Learning Community. Dr Gill Eatough is in no way to blame for the issue of parking there. The blame must be firmly born by the borough highways department which made these decisions long before she was in post.

Hadley & Leegomery Parish Council were consultees about this project. Initially, the whole complex was to be fed from Crescent Road, Hadley but it was my suggestion that the main entrance should be at Waterloo Road as Crescent Road, being a 1950s estate road, was far too narrow to cope with the traffic.

The opening of the new primary school and community facilities in January will see an escalation of problems because of the planners' failure, this time, to accept advice that the parking space at the Crescent Road end is inadequate.

The reason given for no more provision was that people "had to be educated to walk to school".

Officers were warned at the time, of the chaos that would result and, in consequence, we shall have another horrendous school parking problem because officers have not listened to the people who live in and know the area.

But they know best, don't they.
