Pool issue could be a vote loser
I am amazed by the political ineptitude and disregard for local swimmers shown by the borough council with respect to the future of Shrewsbury's swimming pools. Last year, members of the controlling Conservative group seemed surprised that it became an election issue.

They should not have been surprised because this is a special facility, greatly appreciated by many swimmers from miles around.
A new 25-metre pool is not an adequate replacement for the current 33-metre pool, and the three other pools.
Be in no doubt, there are significant gains for developers in building any new pool, as well as building on the existing site.
These need to be balanced against the interests of the swimmers and council tax payers.
The current management of the Quarry Swimming Centre demonstrates considerable ineptitude. We have a new computerised access system which has slowed access considerably, and frustrated staff and customers alike.
This is the main issue influencing me with respect to how I shall vote in the next borough council elections. Given their incompetence on this issue, I do not expect to vote for the Conservatives.
