Policy on roads is confusing

Now that in Telford we have enough white paint on the Eastern Primary Road (A442) to be visible by the naked eye from the moon and enough traffic lights to make a serious bid for city status (and rival Blackpool illuminations to boot), perhaps it is time for John Charles and his team of experts at the borough's traffic management office in Malinslee House to go out to public consultation to find out if we, the council tax payers, have any suggestions to make.

The proposed Urban Traffic Management Centre costing £1.2 million will no doubt be extremely popular, and I can see at least an OBE beckoning for Mr Charles in 2007.

At a more trivial level, can I start the consultation ball rolling with a request to re-surface the B5062 Crudgington to Newport road, which I surveyed today?

I counted nearly 200 repairs, trenches and in-fills along a four-mile stretch, to say nothing of several huge lakes that followed overnight rain. After all, this busy stretch of road has not had any real money spent on it to my knowledge in the last 30 years.

I'm sure a generous sprinkling of traffic lights and white paint could be included to improve 'traffic movements'. What other suggestions do readers have?

Perhaps it's time our elected members enquired what is going on at Malinslee House. I'm baffled.
