No excuses for speeders
Once again a speed friendly correspondent (Shropshire Star, October 3) misuses Department for Transport figures to excuse speeding drivers. He calls two deaths a day a fragment when it is about a quarter of all fatalities.
Few drivers admit to speeding. So accidents reported as driver error often involve inappropriate speed and his "fragment" becomes many fatal accidents.
The lesson we all need to learn is that drivers who speed are also more likely to make other driving errors. They lose control, drive too close and brake suddenly.
It needn't cost a lot of money, just a lighter touch on the accelerator and a little humble pie.
